WE-EF asked Kim Bianchini, Exterior/Industrial Specification Manager at H.I. Lighting about the Mandurah Traffic Bridge project:

Q. How did the lighting contribute to the final project result?
A. Lighting aided in the facilitation of safe movement along the new roadway and pathway for both vehicles and pedestrian traffic. The lighting was designed in accordance with the requirements of AS/NZS1158.1.1 and AS/NZS1158.3.1 for lighting of V3 roads and P2 pathways.

Q. What were the biggest challenges?
A. The biggest challenge was to provide the correct product with the correct optics to suit the decorative poles and visual concept.

Q. Were there any lighting solutions that you feel worked particularly well and why?
A. Whilst the V3 subcategory was achievable at a 46-meter spacing using a higher wattage luminaire, the idea was to use the architect’s preferred 21-metre pole spacing. We applied this by using a lower wattage luminaire.

Q. Are you happy with the project result?
A. Very happy with the results. The uniformity across the bridge is excellent with no unwanted discomfort glare to drivers or pedestrians.
