Located in the heart of Canberra City, Constitution Place has flourished as the city’s latest fine dining and commercial precinct. Inspired by Walter Burley Griffin’s design for the capital, the area is a vibrant mixture of indoor commercial spaces, with the 12-level building of offices, restaurants and hotel, mixes with well-lit outdoor spaces and lake views.

The Project

When tasked with creating the lighting design for the forecourt and streets between buildings, contractors, Switched on Electrical Services, reached out to Integral Lighting, WE-EF’s Sales Partner in ACT, to supply the luminaires. Using the original specs from the original project; Constitution Avenue, they resupplied the WE-EF VFL500-SE street and area luminaires as well as the ETC340 ingrounds for a modern lighting design that creates a welcoming ambience for the visitors.

Considerations

When tasked with designing the lighting for the outdoor spaces in Constitution Place, it was key that the luminaires matched the ones used in Constitution Avenue to keep the architectural appearance of the original design. For this reason, VFL500-SE luminaires in the original specifications, including the two lighting levels of 144 W and 48 W for the street and forecourt and bespoke height, were to be installed within the internal areas of the Constitution Place.

The VLF500-SE street and area luminaires are the perfect choice for the project because of their architectural appearance and versatility, with various standard and hybrid optic choices, multi wattages and lumen packages as well as post top and side entry mounting options allowing for the luminaires to be installed without impacting the trees planted nearby.

Alongside the original lighting design, WE-EF ETC340 inground luminaires were also installed between the flag poles in the forecourt by the ACT government building, providing uniform uplighting and precision with minimal light spillage to the surrounding area. The WE-EF products were chosen for their easy installation, optical control and durability backed up with the 10-year warranty.

The result

The result is a timeless, contemporary external lighting design. The use of the VFL500-SE street and area luminaires and ETC340 inground uplights creates an outdoor foyer space that welcomes guests and supports the structure by day and night.
